The Pediatric Prevention Research Center (PPRC) at Wayne State University School of Medicine has been awarded a two-year grant (R24) from the National Institutes of Health to develop and pilot a national web-based mentoring program for international HIV/AIDS research. The Global HIV/AIDS Mentoring and Training Network will target U.S.-based junior scholars from diverse backgrounds with a strong interest in international HIV/AIDS socio-behavioral research. The national web-based program will permit mentoring across institutions and thereby expand opportunities for these young scientists to train with mentors working in geographic and/or topical areas of interest to them.

The overarching objective of the program is to increase the number and capacity of junior scientists from diverse backgrounds to conduct scientifically innovative, culturally appropriate and methodologically rigorous theory-based behavioral research in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care in low- and middle-income countries.
